David Horner The Viaduct at Ribblehead, North Yorkshire, England. It was in a mood of extreme pessimism that I drove through Wensleydale one September morning. There was a steady drizzle and low cloud blanketed the fellsides. My objective was to photograph the 'Fellsman' steam train crossing the magnificent Ribblehead viaduct, on the Settle to Carlisle railway line. On the descent into Ribblesdale, a transformation developed, the dank weather being gradually replaced by blue skies and sunshine. It was touch and go whether the train would arrive before these transient conditions disappeared. Fortunately, it did! Minutes later the cloud dispersed and the magic was gone.
